Verwoodians on Waste have a very active litter picking team. We keep the main roads coming into and around Verwood as litter free as possible in order to protect our wildlife and stop plastic from entering our rivers and streams.

All we do is 1-hour, when we can, but you will not believe what we pick up in that time. 10 full bags is not unusual in 1-hour!
To report fly tipping please use Dorset Council online reporting system and interactive map. Dorset Council ask you not to touch the contamination but report it immediately. Offenders will be fined if any evidence can be found.

Dorset Council are hugely supportive of VoW. They provide us with official blue bags in which to collect the waste.
We then report where we have left the rubbish on what3words and within 24-hours the waste is collected, sorted, recycled or disposed of.
Here at VoW we take safety very seriously. We are fully insured and equip all our litter pickers with high visibility equipment, including trousers.
Just give us your size and we will happily buy it in for you. However as per our ethos we purchase as new from Vinted or Marketplace! SignTrek are very good to us when we need signs and clothing.
If you wish to join the litter picking team you may wish to join our WhatsApp group, which notifies the team which roads we aim to pick each week and we leave it to the individual if they are free to help.
If you see a badly littered road you wish to clear the team will help you clear it.
We love road closures! We can get so much litter off the streets when there is no traffic to worry about.
We sincerely thank The Post Code Lottery for their generous grant of over £1000 during 2026. This will pay for a lot of new litter picking equipment and clothing for our growing team.
We also thank Three Legged Cross Solar Farm for a grant in 2025 for a new trolley and official road safety signs. These keep us safe and help no end carrying the heavy bags of rubbish we collect.

To report rubbish thrown from a car in Dorset, use the Dorset Council's online form to provide details, locations, and crucial dashcam footage or photos.
This helps them fine offenders up to £100, as they actively investigate these reports under their 'See it – Report it' initiative.
Volunteers collecting street litter should email the location of their bags to wasteteam@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk
Litter Free Dorset is made up of a group of local organisations, charities and community groups. We all work together to reduce the social, economic and environmental impacts of litter.
This is done by trying to stop littering behaviour in the first place through projects and campaigns.
We are working closely with Litter Free Dorset and Dorset Council to try and reduce litter in our area.
Without grants a lot of what VoW does would not be possible.
We are also grateful to Verwood Rotary for a grant towards litter picking equipment from the 2024 and 2025 Rustic Fayre and not forgetting Verwood Town Council for high visibility clothing.
